At first, we were all like, “WOAH ROME! ROME IS SUCH A GREAT THEME CUZ SHE IS TOTALLY LIKE THE EMPRESS OF EVERYONE, AND THERE IS SOMETHING TOTALLY FOOTBALL / ANTI-FOOTBALL ABOUT THAT.”  But now I’m realizing that there are Sphinxes on her chariot, so it’s really more of an Elizabeth Taylor/Cleopatra/Egypt reference, which makes me think: Hey guys, is this some kind of congratulations to Egypt on their revolution?  Some kind of code of subversion?  A reminder that we can overthrow our own leaders?  That we could even, potentially, overthrow Madonna?  She might be better than all of us, but her nod to revolution is a democratizing gesture, no?  Before the Super Bowl, someone posted on my Facebook wall, “MADONNA IS COUNTER-REVOLUTIONARY.”  This is my evidence to the contrary.
Don’t you think Nicki Minaj is like Jackee Harry of music?!  She makes SUCH GOOD FACES, and does such funny voices.  I wanna hear her say, “MARY!”  They also look really similar.  They should do a single together.
I know a lot of people who feel like M.I.A. is being disrespected by getting pushed to the side as Madonna’s back-up dancer.  I even know someone who feels like this casting is “imperialist,” and I TOTALLY SYMPATHIZE WITH THIS PERSPECTIVE, but I also sort of feel like anyone who doesn’t want to sing on a Madonna song is a total idiot.  Also, M.I.A.’s performance is SO BAD-ASS.  She barely even raps anything.  She says, “I don’t give a shit,” AND I BELIEVE HER.  HOW AWESOME IS THAT TO RAP ON A MADONNA SONG AND NOT EVEN CARE.  Living for it.  Also, Madonna created a situation where a Sri Lankan woman with a strong authorial voice could FLIP OFF MILLIONS OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL FANS.  Cultural terrorism at its finest!
I’ll probably have more to say later.  I CAN’T WAIT TO BE 53!!!!
