My friend Michael asked me what I thought of this super bizarre article about Tyler Clementi’s suicide, and I didn’t have time to really collect my thoughts, so I made a list:
-tyler clementi sounds totally cool! he could play violin while riding a unicycle! i would have totally been his friend.
-his roommate was a major choad, but should have been expelled, with no criminal charges.
-everyone wants to seem cool.
-cruelty and political incorrectness are coded as elements of coolness and swagger. as a result, people think they will be rewarded for saying racist and heterosexist things.
-one of the threatening things about homosexuality is that it potentially cuts across class lines.
-everyone is lonely.
-queer culture could save more lives than LGBT rights.
